Drinking real Scotch whisky distilled by Scottish people

Drinking real whisky how three people choose.

Following a major international whisky conference recently three Chief Executives decided to go for a drink together in a local hotel.

Arriving at the bar the brash CEO of a major American distiller loudly announced to the barman, “I want a genuine American whisky the greatest whisky in the world”

The more quieter but equally confident Chief Executive of a Japanese whisky company said to the barman “I want a genuine Japanese whisky we drink more than any other country in the world and we are the best distillers in the world.”

It was the turn of the Scotsman who ran one of the largest whisky companies in Scotland. He simply said to the barman “I want a coke with ice”.

His two friends turned to him in amazement and said, “Why aren’t you drinking whisky then?”

Turning to them he quietly but knowing his own expertise in the whisky business he replied, “Well, I thought as you weren’t willing to drink whisky then neither should I?

Bottle of Scotch whiskyI understand and share his view! However despite saying that if you want to prove me wrong by sending me a bottle of whisky from another country simply leave a comment in the box below and I will send you my home address to give your recommendation a fair and honest trial.? About ten years ago when I was visiting Belfast someone bought me an Irish whiskey which I rather enjoyed.

However in early 2005 I was in a bar in Australia and asked what Scotch whisky they stocked. I was given three names? One of which I recognized as coming from Kentucky USA, a whiskey from Ireland and a brand I had never heard of but discovered from the label it was distilled in Japan?

I ask for a Scotch and am given a choice of three whisky drinks that would never have seen a genuine Scotch heather patch or any tartan kilt.

I opted for the Irish and turned back to a friend with me and when I looked back at the bar I found the barman had automatically added Cola to the drink. No real Scotch drinker would add something like that to a scotch whisky but I could understand other types of whisky may need something to hide the taste.
